EVAN RACHEL WOOD Interview by Michael J. Lee, Executive Editor for Radio Free Entertainment
August 8, 2005
In her critically acclaimed breakthrough performance in Thirteen, Evan Rachel Wood shared an onscreen kiss with Nikki Reed that created quite a buzz. When we told her that the big screen smooch scored her our 2003 Radio Free Movie Award for Best Kiss, she was a good sport who excitedly let us know what the fan recognition meant and what exactly went into the filming of that award winning scene (granted, it's a small award...but it makes the phrase "award winning scene" technically correct). Here's what she had to say...
The Interview
RadioFree.com: Not that you should even be aware of this, but you and Nikki Reed won our 2003 Radio Free Movie Award for Best Kiss for Thirteen.
EVAN: Really? Oh my God, are you kidding me? Dude! Do you know what? When we did that kiss, our main motivation was to get some award for Best Kiss. [laughs] And I've been waiting for it for so long!
Sorry it's not as prestigious as an Oscar. But if it's any consolation, it was voted on by fans, instead of a bunch of critics...
No, that's awesome!
Were you nervous about filming that scene?
No. It was actually my second girl-on-girl kiss onscreen. [laughs]
You've talked about things the cast and crew did to dispel tension on the set of Pretty Persuasion. Did you have to do anything like that for the Thirteen kiss?
No. We rehearsed that scene, and we just made it very technical. Me and Nikki really talked about the kiss and what we wanted to do with it, because, like I said, we wanted to win some kind of Best Kiss award. [laughs] And we wanted to have fun with it and laugh about it, so we were like, "All right, we're going to do this, then we're going to do that." So that kind of took the tension away.
They didn't give you your props at the MTV Movie Awards?
