Along with Transformers, G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero was one of the signature cartoons of the '80s. The classic animated series introduced a whole generation to soldiers parachuting from exploding aircraft, villains with speech impediments and wacky accents, and ninjas in the army--if for no other reason than the fact that ninjas are awesome, so ninjas with guns must be more awesomer! And who could forget those "Knowing is Half the Battle" public service announcements that warned kids of the dangers of prejudice, random drugs, catching on fire, and playing baseball without glasses?
Just in time for the theatrical debut of G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, Shout! Factory, one of the leaders in classic TV-on-DVD, will release the original '80s 'toon as a spiffy new box set!
G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero: Season 1.1 is a 4-disc DVD set packaged in thin packs with a deluxe foil board sleeve with embossed accents. The first 22 episodes of the series are compiled in this collector's edition, including three epic 5-part mini-series, The M.A.S.S. Device, The Revenge of Cobra, and The Pyramid of Darkness. And for a limited time, the box set comes with Joe, Cobra, and ninja rub-on tattoos. Bonus materials include a retrospective featurette with writer Ron Friedman, archival Hasbro toy commercials, a printable script for the episode "Jungle Trap," the original 1963 Toy Fair presentation, and those iconic "Knowing is Half the Battle" PSAs!
