A new collection just in time for the theatrical run of J.J. Abrams' blockbuster Star Trek reboot, The Best of Star Trek: The Next Generation features four classic episodes of the series that brought Gene Roddenberry's vision of the future back to television. Starring Patrick Stewart, Jonathan Frakes, and Brent Spiner, it's an ideal compilation for casual fans and newcomers.
The Best of Star Trek: The Next Generation includes the following four classic episodes:
- The Best of Both Worlds (Part 1) - Widely considered the best and signature episode of The Next Generation, The Best of Both Worlds was a special two-parter that closed out Season 3 and opened Season 4. The nail-biting cliffhanger aired in a day before TV info was widely spoiled on the internet, and proved to be a long, but ultimately satisfying, wait for Trek fans, and established the Borg--a race of soulless, cybernetic drones--as one of Trekdom's most feared enemies. In Part 1, Captain Picard (Patrick Stewart) is abducted and transformed into a Borg, and the seemingly unstoppable aliens use his knowledge to mount an assault on Earth itself.
- The Best of Both Worlds (Part 2) - The spectacular conclusion features the crew of the Enterprise-D valiantly using all means available to try to stop the Borg's relentless invasion of Earth.
- Yesterday's Enterprise - The Enterprise-B, the successor to Kirk's Enterprise, mysterious appears through a rift in space, and history is instantly changed: Picard and his crew now exist in a universe in which they are at war with the Klingons, and the Federation is desperately on the brink of surrender.
- The Measure of a Man - Android Data (Brent Spiner) finds himself in the middle of a trial which will determine if he is a sentient lifeform or the property of Starfleet, and Commander Riker (Jonathan Frakes) is reluctantly and forcibly made to present the case against him.
